City of Casey mayor Lorraine Wreford opened the lift on 21 December, which has been installed from the roof car park to the food court end of the centre.
Centro Cranbourne operations manager Brad McDonald said all staff and shoppers were welcome to use the lift, but it was built to cater for people with disabilities.
“If there was ever a problem with the travelator there was never a secondary means of getting people with disabilities or people with trolleys back up onto the roof,” Mr McDonald said.
The response from staff and shoppers had been positive so far, Mr McDonald said, and he thanked Cr Wreford for attending the opening.
The staff car park was down-sized to accommodate the lift and new disabled parking spots have been built, he said.
There are also plans to replace two old travelators at the shopping centre.
About 550,000 people walk through the doors at Centro Cranbourne each month.
