BOOKWORMS at Kilberry Valley Primary School have been congratulated for having the most students in Victoria complete this year’s Premier Reading Challenge.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley visited the Hampton Park school on Friday to applaud the students.
The school had the most students – 820 – complete the challenge.
Literacy co-ordinator Ros Carabott said she was very proud of the students and their efforts, and said 25 children read more than 100 books as part of the challenge.
Ms Carabott said staff encouraged students to have a love of reading and writing at the school.
“I was very surprised and very proud of our school,” she said.
“I thank Judith for her continued support in this and other school projects.”
Ms Graley said it was wonderful to see the students take up the challenge with such energy and enthusiasm.
“Reading is an essential life skill and the challenge encourages students to discover the wonder and excitement of a good book,” Ms Graley said.
“To all of the students at Kilberry Valley Primary School, congratulations on a terrific achievement and I hope you aim to beat that target next year.”
“You should be proud of this amazing effort.”
Ms Graley presented the school with a copy of The Loaded Dog by Henry Lawson.
