Four years later, the girls graduated from the school as the best of friends.
The two girls met when they sat next to each other as Grade 2 students when the News covered the opening of Lynbrook Primary School.
Kyrah’s mother, Sharon Bailey, said the girls have been inseparable ever since.
“They’re like sisters. They fight like sisters and are very protective of each other,” she said.
“They are part of each other’s family and go away with each other.”
Ms Bailey said she had become good friends with Jacinta’s mother through their daughters’ friendship.
The two will attend Hampton Park Secondary College next year, and Ms Bailey said separating the girls was not an option.
“We’ve moved from Lynbrook and that’s bad enough. They tee up sleepovers and do everything together.”
Ms Bailey said she was pleased her daughter had such a wonderful friend.
“You just don’t know the person sitting next to you would be as close as a sister four years later.”
