A fair cop for

By Bridget Brady
Senior Sergeant Andrew Horscroft is the new Officer In Charge (OIC) at the Cranbourne Police Station. He joined the team recently after previously working as a training officer at Prahran.
Sen Sgt Horscroft said it was important to ensure police were able to facilitate the needs of a growing community.
“Part of the planning process is to work very closely with the council and planners as to how we’re going to cater for that growth,” he said.
Sen Sgt Horscroft said any changes would depend on how quickly the area developed, but said the station covered a “huge” area that extended from Hampton Park down to the coastal villages.
“We are a busy police station here.”
One of the challenges police faced in the Cranbourne area was to engage the many young people in the right kinds of activities, Sen Sgt Horscroft said.
One of his goals during his time at Cranbourne was to make sure police had a solid understanding of the diverse cultures in the area.
“I would like people to see the police as very approachable, that we can build a positive partnership with various groups.”
Sen Sgt Horscroft said he believed no-one worked for him at the Cranbourne station, but with him.
“I’m only ever going to be as good as the people who work with me. I’m as good as the most junior person and the most senior person here.”
