CASEY councillor Kevin Bradford was still pursuing a council-funded university environment and planning course, he said yesterday.
A council source had told the News Cr Bradford had dropped the course, after council put the policy under the microscope at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Civic leaders voted to make changes to the policy so councillors would have to provide proof they had successfully completed units before the council reimbursed part of their studies.
Springfield Ward councillor Aziz described the policy as “significantly flawed” and said it was fair enough that a civic leader produced proof they had passed.
Cr Aziz said the purpose of any studies the council supported was to improve a councillor’s ability to do their job better.
Mayfield Ward councillor Kevin Bradford has requested funds be allocated for his Masters of Social Science (Environment and Planning) course at RMIT, and councillors agreed, with the amendments.
Cr Bradford declared a conflict of interest and left the room when the matter was discussed at last night’s council meeting.
