HAMPTON Park Primary School students have been taking part in chess activities at school and learning from visiting chess experts.
Instructors from Chess Planet visited the school for the educational program to teach about 50 students from grades three to six the finer points of the game.
Students have also been practising at lunchtimes and competing in local chess tournaments, winning trophies and individual medals.
The school is promoting the game to students as a way to improve performance in mathematics and science as well as improving social interactions.
Chess teaches students to reason logically and to develop the ablity to visualize and think abstractly.
