Foul stench begone

A FOUL smell in Cranbourne is under control, according to Casey council.
Residents have complained about a “vile” smell coming from the council-owned transfer station at Cemetery Road in Cranbourne.
Margaret Lackmann said the smell had been a problem for some time, but was especially bad last week. Mrs Lackmann said the odour smelt like “rotten manure and a dead corpse”.
Her husband, Brian, said the smell even permeated their house.
“It was just rotten and we shouldn’t have to put up with that,” he said.
Council’s waste manager Michael Jansen said the council was advised by the operator of the site, Consolidated Waste, that the odour was caused by the removal of stockpiled green waste.
The green waste would be removed during several weeks, and this task was almost complete, Mr Jansen said.
A spokeswoman from the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) said they had about 11 reports on the smell and the EPA would consider enforcement action.
