THE action was fast and furious- at least by worm standards- at the inaugural Sandhurst Cup worm race this month.
Syndicates entered 15 worms in the race that took about 15 minutes to complete, while raising more than $1000 for the Limbs 4 Life golf clinics that launched the first amputee golf coaching clinic in April.
There was controversy atthe finish line when leading worm, representing Limbs 4 Life, dida U-turn on the finish line and Oliver from Oliver Hume Real Estate sprinted over the line.
The Ruddster, entered by Cranbourne MP Jude Perera, slida close third.
Organiser Ron Smith saidthe event was very funny and thought it was the only worm race he knew of that had been held in such a manner.
Worms were underrated “hidden heroes” that were important contributors to the environment, Mr Smith said.
Executive officer of Limbs4 Life Melissa Noonan said the Sandhurst Cup was anoutstanding success and the urgently needed funds would go towards expanding the special golf clinics for amputees at Sandhurst Club.
The purpose of the clinics is to provide amputees with the tools required for getting involved with golf as well as having the confidence to participate.
