Sons’ tribute to truckie dad

By Bridget Brady
THE sons of a Tooradin man killed in a trucking accident will present the memorial trophy established in his honour at next year’s Tooradin Tractor Pull.
Dylan, 12, Mitchell, 11, and Lauchlan, 9, will present the Steve Gregson Memorial Trophy at the Tooradin event in January next year. Their father, Stephen Gregson, died in a truck accident 2004.
Leigh Gregson said trucks were her husband’s passion and she was pleased her sons would present the trophy that was set up as a tribute to their father.
“His whole life revolved around the truck,” Mrs Gregson said. “It was a huge shock when he died.”
Mr Gregson spent most of his life in Tooradin and was involved in the Tooradin football and cricket clubs as well as the local fire brigade. Mrs Gregson said her boys were excited to present the trophy.
“I think it’s wonderful because anyone’s legacy is their children,” Mrs Gregson said. “They are excited but I think on the day it will be quite emotional.”
Mrs Gregson said her family would make a day of it at next year’s Tooradin Tractor Pull and some of her sons’ friends will come along to watch the presentation.
Tooradin Tractor Pull Association president Adrian Flint said Mr Gregson was a hard-working man who helped organising the event in its early days.
One of the members of the committee selects a truck at the event to win the memorial trophy.
Money raised from the Tooradin Tractor Pull goes towards local organisations, schools and sports clubs.
Next year’s Tooradin Tractor Pull will be held on 16 January at Rutter Park Reserve in Tooradin.
