KILBERRY Valley Primary School students got a taste of some stormwater education when Melbourne Water visited the school last month.
Melbourne Water representatives have offered stormwater education to schools near its project that will construct wetland pools in Rover Gum Creek in Hampton Park.
The aim of the presentation was to link stormwater education with information about local works. The students learned about the impact of stormwater of waterways and witnessed Melbourne Water’s Ban Stormwater Education Model, which is an interactive model of an urban catchment that shows the impact of stormwater on rivers, creeks and bays.
Science coordinator Brooke Dornan said the students thoroughly enjoyed the presentation.
“The students linked the way they used their water at home and how that affects the environment and where it ends up,” she said.
Melbourne Water is building a series of wetland pools in River Gum Creek to reduce stormwater pollution, which will improve the quality of water in the creek.
Work on stage one of the project was completed in March and stage two is expected to start soon.
