Brothers in arms

MEMBERS of the Cranbourne RSL watched as a plaque was unveiled to officially commemorate the amalgamation of the Cranbourne and Dandenong RSLs.
Casey councillor Amanda Stapledon joined Dandenong Cranbourne RSL sub-branch vice-president Barry Jones to unveil the plaque at Cranbourne on Friday night.
Cr Stapledon donated some of her ward funds for the plaque.
Mr Jones said about 150 people were at the Cranbourne premises during the ceremony.
The two clubs merged earlier this year to become one of the biggest sub-branches in Victoria after Dandenong bailed a struggling Cranbourne out of a $1.3 million debt.
There are now extensive plans to redevelop the Cranbourne premises.
“I think it is important and it was a big move to amalgamate those two clubs,” Mr Jones said.
Cr Stapledon said the benefits of the clubs extended to the whole of the community, not just to returned servicemen and women and their families.
“It is an honour to be associated with the newly amalgamated Dandenong Cranbourne RSL and to unveil the plaque on Friday night,” Cr Stapledon said.
