Heavens above! It’s a church open day

By Bridget Brady
The leaders of seven churches have united to each host an open day at their church on Sunday, 8 November, and have invited the community to drop by and find out what they are all about.
Pastor Lorri Kruithoff from Freedom Christian Church in Cranbourne said it was a good opportunity for people who may be new to the area, who no longer attend services, or are interested in finding out more about churches in their town, to come along.
It would be a relaxed day for people to enjoy and each church would hold organise something to welcome visitors, she said.
“The sky’s not going to fall in if you go to church,” Pastor Kruithoff said.
“Together we wanted to send a message to the community that you are welcome.”
Reverend Wendy Snook from Cranbourne Regional Uniting Church said the open day was a good chance for people who needed support or found themselves in tough situations to find out what churches could offer them.
“I know some people in Cranbourne are doing it tough at the moment. There is help out there if people need it,” Rev Snook said.
“Or if someone’s curious, we welcome them. We are all open so come and have a look.”
Reverend David Powys from St John’s Anglican Church said “we’re normal people and you’re welcome to join us”.
The churches participating in the open day are most of those that form part of the Cranbourne Christian Ministers’ Association (CCMA).
The churches participating in the open day are: Salvation Army Cranbourne, Turning Point Family Church, Turning Point Lyndhurst District Church, Cranbourne Regional Uniting Church, St John’s Anglican Church, Freedom Christian Church and Hope Christian Centre.
