Young talent time

TALENT came in all shapes and forms at Hampton Park Primary School during the 2009 Talent Quest.
The event began three years ago, when students asked staff members Jenny Norman and Faye Rendall to hold a talent show.
The duo devised a program that worked in with the ‘You Can Do It’ program which is included in daily teachings in the classrooms. Through the program, students learn co-operation, resilience, getting along, persistence and organisation.
“Using those qualities, the students now know how to be an audience member, how to be confident performing, how to be a backstage crew member and how to be a master of ceremonies,” Ms Rendall said.
The winners of this year’s Talent Quest were Prep student Chantelle who sang and danced to ‘Please Don’t Stop the Music’. Amand was the Grades 1-2 winner. He danced to ‘In the Ayer’. The Grade 3-4 winner was Nethmini who sang a Sri Lankan song about teachers. Hayden was the Grade 5-6 winner, who finished the assembly by playing the guitar to Michael Jackson’s Black and White.
Now the students at the school are looking forward to the 2009 Hampton Park Carnival on 13 November from 3.30 to 8.30. This year’s theme is ‘It Came From … Outer Space.’ The carnival will take place at the school grounds on Somerville Road, Hampton Park.
