THIS weekend’s Pearcedale Farmers’ Market will showcase the return of the Hobson family spring harvest of asparagus.
Silvana Hobson said she was happy to share her knowledge of asparagus.
“My mum, Maria Hobson, is the head cook in the family. Grandma’s handwritten recipes have been lovingly saved, tested and improved over the years. The big event of the year is asparagus picking time,” she said.
Ms Hobson said pickled asparagus was perfect as an accompaniment to summer lunches and picnics.
Beef, cheeses, yoghurts, chutneys, pasta, fruit, vegetables and free-range eggs grown or made by local farmers are sold at the market.
The market will be held on 17 October from 8am to 1pm at 710 Baxter-Tooradin Road, next to the Pearcedale Recreation Reserve.
The Pearcedale Craft and Produce Market also operates on the first Saturday of each month. Both markets aim to support local community farmers and producers.
