A FORMER Cranbourne South woman took out the Myer Fashions on the Field crown on her home turf with a classic look she sourced from various boutiques.
Michelle Harrington, who now lives in Hawthorn, won a $6000 Myer gift card from a hotly contested field on luxbet.com Cranbourne Cup Day.
Ms Harrington, 33, wore a strapless dress she bought from Gold Coast boutique Moss and Spy that had a cream lining finished off with a layer of tulle and overlay of lace.
She “fell in love” with a headpiece she found at a boutique in Cairns designed by Amanda Macore, where she also found a matching bag.
She sourced her shoes and black jacket locally to finish off her outfit.
“I just wanted to go for a classic look,” she said.
“I’m a sucker for buying clothes on holidays and I love going to the races.”
Her win provided the second reason for the Harrington family to celebrate on Sunday, as her mum and dad, Sandra and Derek Harrington, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on the day.
“It was a bit of an all-round big day for everybody. Mum and dad were so excited.”
It was the first time Ms Harrington had entered a fashions on the field competition and thought it was fitting she had beginner’s luck at Cranbourne, where her father is a harness trainer.
“I spent half of my junior life at the Cranbourne racetrack and I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to enter. I have always wanted to.”
Ms Harrington said she had to check her number twice to see if she was really named as the winner.
“It was so exciting. I can’t believe it.”
She added that the standard of entries on the day was excellent.
“I was so impressed. I thought the fashion standard was so high, especially for country racing.”
Ms Harrington said she would enjoy her shopping spree.
“My wardrobe is crazy. I don’t know where I’m going to fit more clothes, but I’ll find room.”
