FORMER Hawthorn premiership captain Michael Tuck will wave the chequered flag this Saturday to send off thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts on their journey to Phillip Island.
Mr Tuck, 56, said he was happy to get the call to wave off the riders, after former AFL player Nathan Thompson pulled out of the role due to other commitments.
“It should be good fun. To see so many bikes in one area will be a highlight,” he said.
The Berwick resident has never attended the wave-off event in Cranbourne, but said years ago he remembered watching riders take off from traffic lights in the area on their way home from the Grand Prix on Phillip Island.
Mr Tuck played 426 games in his VFL/AFL career, and was captain of Hawthorn from 1986 to 1991, and captained the side to four premierships during that time.
Mr Tuck said he usually watched the event in Phillip Island on television, and looked forward to the prelude of excitement to the Grand Prix on Saturday.
“There is a lot of interest for the wave-off and I think it’s good for Victoria and good for Casey.”
He said the event helped put Cranbourne on the map in some form.
