Traders eye GP run

CRANBOURNE traders are encouraged to reap the rewards of large crowds on the weekend of the MRA Cranbourne GP Run by opening for business on Sunday.
Cranbourne Chamber of Commerce (CCC) president Judy Davis said many motorbike enthusiasts visited Cranbourne on Sunday on their way home from the Grand Prix in Phillip Island. Ms Davis said while many businesses already opened on a Sunday, she hoped more would embrace the trade opportunities that were available on the weekend of the MRA Cranbourne GP Run.
“People start coming back home about 3pm on Sunday, and I went down there last year and they were all looking for somewhere to stop and have something to eat or drink,” Ms Davis said.
“Traders could definitely make the most of it,” she said.
Ms Davis said the weekend was a good opportunity to offer sales on Saturday when the thousands of people lined the streets.
“I hope that they take the opportunity to advertise their shops because there are so many people in the town.”
The MRA Cranbourne GP Run will be held on Saturday 17 October with free entertainment beginning at 8.15am. Thousands of motorcyclists gather in Cranbourne for the wave off, which will take place at 10am, and travel en-masse towards the track in Phillip Island for the 2009 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
