POLICE have rewarded more than 15 children in Cranbourne they have caught in the act doing the right thing, since the launch of a ticketing program earlier this year.
Youngsters who had received kudos for their good behaviour have appreciated the recognition, Leading Senior Constable Brett Owen said.
Victoria Police, in conjunction with the City of Casey, started the program that rewards young people with vouchers for local businesses when police spotted them doing the right thing, which might include things like handing in lost property, helping with witness statements, providing information to police or wearing a helmet when riding.
“The program is going really well. They (youths) have appreciated that people have identified their positive behaviour.”
Sen Const Owen said police were looking to “extend” the program and would speak to Casey Council about the possibilities to expand it.
“It was set up as a trial for 12 months and I can’t see any reason why it can’t continue. It has been going really well. We’re speaking to the Cranbourne Community Plan and looking at how it can be extended.”
Kudos for kids
