TOORADIN Primary School has become one of the first schools in Australia to install a wind turbine, environmental co-ordinator Kristie Young said.
The 600-watt system complements the school’s existing five-kilowatt solar system.
“Students and staff at Tooradin Primary School were very excited last week to be among the first schools in Australia to have a wind turbine installed,” Ms Young said.
“The wind turbine has also been a focal point for classroom lessons, with children making windmills and finding out how little wind is required for a wind turbine to operate.”
The students have also been busy celebrating the beginning of spring.
They have been getting their hands dirty by weeding, planting and mulching the gardens as well as enjoying outside lessons in the creek bed.
