Students’ mix-up takes the cake

A CAKE in a cup that takes just 90 seconds is the quick and easy product Year 10 students at Lyndhurst Secondary College have created.
The Year 10 food technology class was required to create a new food product and students came up with Cake in a Cup, a microwavable cake that takes 90 seconds to cook.
Through trial and error, the students created the powered mixture in six different flavours and all that is required is to add water.
The students had to create a label and market their product to teachers as an appealing quick and easy snack.
Food technology teacher Mary McLeish said the students were proud of the finished product she described as being “like a hot pudding”.
“They learned a lot about marketing techniques to catch people’s eyes and how to make food look the best it can in a photograph,” Ms McLeish said.
The students are now taking orders for their Cake in a Cup from staff at the school.
