New school for Cranbourne

By Bridget Brady
THE walls of a new Cranbourne primary school are on their way up.
Cranbourne North East Primary School will open next year and principal Cheryl Irving said she hoped about 200 students would be enrolled to begin the school year.
The school, which is likely to have a different name by next year, will eventually accommodate more than 450 students and is one of the schools being built in growth areas as part of the State Government’s public- private partnership program.
Ms Irving said there would be interactive whiteboards in each classroom and students would have access to wireless internet and laptops. “It will be beautifully resourced and state-of-the-art,” Ms Irving said. “It’s a very exciting time.”
Ms Irving has previously opened a new school and was principal of Kingsley Park Primary School in Frankston for 10 years.
Members of the establishment committee last week had their first on-site visit together at the school at Silky Oak Drive in Cranbourne North. All are welcome to attend the first public meeting for the school, which will be held at the Cranbourne Library meeting room on 27 August from 6pm to 7pm at Berwick-Cranbourne Road in Cranbourne.
For enrolments call Casey Central Secondary College 9705 2244.
