THE number of swine flu cases in the City of Casey has increased from 19 to 30 in less than two weeks.
The Department of Human Services confirmed on Tuesday that 30 people in Casey had H1N1 influenza. On 19 June the number of confirmed cases was 19.
Victoria’s deputy chief health officer Dr Rosemary Lester said it was important to remember that, in most cases, human swine flu was a mild illness that people could recover from without any treatment.
“However, we know that for people with chronic medical conditions, influenza can be severe,” Dr Lester said.
Dr Lester said people who were at high risk due to pregnancy, respiratory disease, heart disease, diabetes, renal disease, obesity and immuno-suppression should see their doctor if they develop respiratory symptoms.
