A SMALL market that a Berwick church started is sprouting into a larger success.
The 50-50 Monthly Market held at Monash University in Berwick, an initiative of The Winepress church in Berwick, started about a year ago and has grown considerably since then.
Held at the car park at Monash University, the predominantly bric-a-brac market is on again this Saturday.
Organiser Marisa Bernardo, from The Winepress, said she wanted to encourage the community to attend the monthly Saturday market because half of the proceeds from each market are donated to a local charity.
“By spending money people are helping the local community,” she said.
“It has developed so much and has really gained momentum from the start of this year.”
At the last market there were about 110 store holders, she said. The market is held on the last Saturday of each month.
“It’s really exciting to see the potential of this. The bigger it gets the more money we can put towards helping the local community. That’s why we want to grow and build.”
The next market is this Saturday at the car park at Monash University in Berwick from 8am to 1pm. Entry is free.
