AS THE colder weather sets in, Cranbourne residents are being urged to save energy and thereby reduce their household greenhouse gas emissions.
The Brumby Government is reintroducing its iconic Black Balloon energy saving campaign by putting advertisements back on television, radio and in newspapers.
The Government is asking householders to be environmentally conscious this winter.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera would like to see a positive response from the campaign in local residents.
“Winter is the most energy intensive season for our local households so it’s important everyone cuts their energy use wherever and whenever possible,” Mr Perera said.
Each black balloon represents 50 grams of greenhouse gases and the average Victorian household produces an astonishing 240,000 black balloons each year.
Mr Perera says that reducing energy use this winter will not only benefit the environment but also save residents money on their bills.
“If you currently set your heater thermostat at 22 degrees Celsius, you can save up to 17,800 balloons and $150 off your yearly energy bills by turning it down just two degrees,” Mr Perera said.
Simple actions like turning off switches, appliances and sealing up draughts and gaps around the house will help keep the house warmer for less money.
