A VOLUNTEER Cranbourne firefighter was injured when the eaves of a house collapsed, knocking him to the ground last week.
The man was injured during a house fire in Cranbourne North at 12.20am on 19 June.
Officer-in-charge at Cranbourne Fire Station, Jim Dore, said the firefighter was taken to hospital with back and neck injuries but was released after treatment the same day.
“The fire started in the garage and burnt through the roof area into the house,” Mr Dore said.
“The firefighter was doing an external attack when the eaves of the house collapsed and fell on him and knocked him down.”
Mr Dore said the volunteer followed all safety precautions while fighting the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the house.
“He took all precautions and so did the officers and that’s why they were doing an external fire attack. They didn’t anticipate the eaves would come down. They only do internal when it’s safe to go in.”
Cranbourne and Narre Warren brigades attended the fire.
Mr Dore said the fire was not suspicious.
