Wellbeing tops list

By Lia Bichel
YEAR 10 students at Cranbourne Secondary College have learned techniques to live a healthy peaceful life.
On 21 May, students traded in routine classes to engage in workshops and information sessions during Wellbeing Day,
Student wellbeing co-ordinator Jan McAleese initiated the event and implemented it in conjunction with the Year 10 co-ordinator.
“I really wanted to promote strategies and learning experiences to students at every level,” Ms McAleese said. “We are hopeful that (the sessions) result in them not only being more accur-ately informed, but also clearer about where to access further advice, information and assistance should this be required.”
Experts and organisations developed and delivered sessions on a variety of areas, including coping with serious illness, responsible and informed sexual decision-making; mental health, relaxation techniques, meditation and healthy eating.
In the afternoon, students engaged in a variety of physical activities, including African drumming, self-defence classes, yoga, bike riding, and fitness session at the Fitness Shack.
The activities follow a physical and visual relaxation event on 18 May, when the Year 10 psychology students took part in a session conducted by Jane MacDonnell of Warrawee Holistic Therapies, Balnarring.
They learned techniques of relaxation, meditation, visualisation and massage.
“Students responded very well to the activities,” Ms McAleese said. “Everything went very well.”
