Golfers hit it off at reunion

By Bridget Cook
CONVERSATIONS flowed and memories were recalled when the Amstel Golf club held a reunion for female members on Monday.
More than 70 female past and present members attended the luncheon in Cranbourne, with some travelling from as far as Bairnsdale and Tocumwal, and even one from interstate.
Members who attended included Tara Shimmin, the youngest woman there and former Junior Club Champion from 1999, life member Lillian Batterham, and Joan Stickland who is soon to turn 90 years old.
Member Heather Sims said the event was for no particular anniversary occasion, but was just something they thought was necessary.
“It was a lovely day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves,” Mrs Sims said.
“Many of the ladies said it should be made an annual event.”
The women took the opportunity to reminisce on the memories from more than 40 years.
One of the stories retold was when Mrs Sims and Heather Miller both hit a hole-in-one, just three minutes apart from each other, in March 1998.
Mrs Sims said the room was full of laughter as members of all ages took to the microphone to retell their personal memories from their time at the club, including matches played against one another and the different events and fundraisers.
