Sun rises on residents

MORE than 50 Cranbourne residents joined their local Solar Neighbourhood last month, taking advantage of discounted solar panel installations.
“This is a great example of residents working together to achieve sustainable, long-term benefits,” Cranbourne Solar Neighbourhood co-ordinator Rob Campbell said.
“I hope this is just the start of a new green revolution in our suburbs.”
The Cranbourne Solar Neighbourhood was initiated in response to the success of the Berwick and Pakenham solar neighbourhoods.
Through the installation of the solar PV systems, $2 million of total capital will be spent on renewable energy and more than $1.25 million of Federal Government funding will be used.
“It clearly demonstrates the enormous potential of renewable energy to stimulate the local economy,” he said.
“This initiative will create local electricity network, reduce household energy bills, improve the reliability of the local electricity network and reduce household greenhouse emissions.”
Mr Campbell said he hoped sustainable technologies would soon be viable for every home and business in the community.
“The creation of a green economy has enormous potential to improve the wellbeing of our people,” he said.
“By working together all residents can take part in the economic, social and environmental benefits.”
Casey councillor Lynette Keleher is supporting the initiative, which is implemented in partnership with private company Rezeko.
