THE Salvation Army is gearing up for their annual Red Shield Appeal on 23 and 24 May.
Captain Peter Walker said he hoped Casey residents would pitch in and beat last year’s total.
“Last year the Salvation Army raised about $70,000 in Casey. We raised $31,000 in Cranbourne,” he said.
“This year we are raising to get at least $35,000 in the Cranbourne area.”
Capt Walker said he understood people may have been stretched to the limits with the recent bout of fundraising events, but hoped people would support the local appeal.
“We are encouraging the community to show their support,” he said.
“Money raised goes to a number of programs and services located in different parts of Melbourne, including drug and alcohol support, women’s refuge, youth and family assistance. Casey residents can also access these services.”
Volunteers will be collecting money by doorknocking on 23 May, and at intersections on 23 and 24 May.
Anyone interested in helping to collect money can contact the Church office at 5991 1759.
