THE $37 million Casey RACE is set to open its doors in June.
Sport and Recreation Minister James Merlino visited the aquatic centre this week and announced it would be open from early June.
“The centre will be open all year round and will help cater for the increasing demand for lap swimming, squad training, physiotherapy, water aerobics, rehabilitation and most importantly, learn-to-swim programs in the area,” Mr Merlino said.
Meteorite sculptures have recently been installed in front of the building to create a pathway between the two entrances.
Together with the twisted 12-metre steel tree-forms, the sculptures have been installed to celebrate the actual meteorites found in the Cranbourne area since the 1800s.
“The artwork will celebrate and memorialise Cranbourne’s historic meteorite shower,” acting mayor Daniel Mulino said.
Cr Mulino said the sculptures would become a key landmark in Casey and a focal point for visitors to Casey RACE.
The aquatic centre will feature a state-of-the-art leisure program, 50-metre lap pool, hydrotherapy pool, waterslides and a crèche.
