Snags for good cause

By Kara Irving
A GROUP of 20 Year 12 VCAL students at Lyndhurst Secondary College in Cranbourne have raised $1500 for the bushfire relief fund.
With the help of the student representative council, they have collected money at lunchtime barbecues, casual dress days, and a rattle tin collection at the school’s annual swim carnival.
“The students have really driven themselves to help those affected by the bushfires in any way, shape or form,” home group teacher and VCAL co-ordinator Jamie Sweatman said.
“The generosity of the students has been incredible. Students donated $20 and $50 notes on a gold coin free-dress day, and that’s something to be proud of.
“Situations like this have an immediate impact on teamwork and leadership, as all students get involved.”
The school also wants to collaborate with primary schools, in order to increase fundraising.
Money continues to flow in from the sales of yellow remembrance ribbons donated by the retailer Spotlight.
