CRANBOURNE MP Jude Perera is recovering well after receiving a kidney from his cousin.
Mr Perera was diagnosed with kidney disease last year and had a kidney transplant last week.
His cousin Lalitha travelled from Sri Lanka to donate one of her kidneys to Mr Perera.
On Friday, Mr Perera’s co-worker Sammy Argiriou said the Cranbourne MP and his cousin were both well and in good spirits, recovering at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton.
“On behalf of Jude and his family, he thanks you all for all your kind wishes, and is looking forward to his return in representing his constituents full of energy and enthusiasm,” Mr Argiriou said.
While Mr Perera will be out of action for up to eight weeks, he says it is business as usual at his office.
“I have very capable staff who will run the office in my absence so anyone needing help should not hesitate to contact them,” Mr Perera said.
