Rosebank Drive residents who live in Camden Green Estate in Cranbourne North say hoons do burn-outs along their street at all hours of the night, using it as a “rat run”.
They said bouts of crime, including stolen property and egged cars, were frequent and frustrating.
Resident Glen Arnott said he wanted the council to build speed humps along Rosebank Drive to deter hoons from speeding.
“It’s getting scary what we see. We are forever waking up in the night,” he said.
“There are a lot of kids in this area, and we see people doing about 80km/h along this street frequently.”
Traffic islands are in place along the street, but another resident, who did not want to be named, said the calming devices in place were not enough.
“There is nothing to slow you down. The traffic islands are too far apart … we need speed humps,” he said.
“If these hoons miss a turn they will end up in someone’s bedroom. We want something to happen before somebody gets killed.”
Maryann Armstrong who lives on the street said the “racket” of pranksters and hoons was a common occurrence.
“Weekends are worse, but I cannot understand the mentality or joy or satisfaction that people get.
“There are so many children in this area … it is dangerous.”
Ms Armstrong said the crime and hoon behaviour was not a good reflection on the street and the people who lived in it.
“It’s a shame really, all of the neighbours are so nice.”
Mr Arnott said the City of Casey council opened their street about a year ago when the estate was being built, but had done nothing to help them since.
“They have opened a road and walked away from it.”
But City of Casey manager of transport Paul Hamilton said an assessment of Rosebank Drive had been added to council’s Local Traffic Management Strategy for possible additional traffic calming devices.
The council said there had been five reports of hoon driving along the street from December 2007 to January this year.
Residents have invited Holt MP Anthony Byrne to come to their street to view the “hoon artwork”.
