A CRANBOURNE dance teacher has extended an open invitation to all dancers in Casey for a rare learning opportunity.
In her first month of business, Nicole Jacobsson from Contemporary Independent Dance in Cranbourne is hosting a class featuring two special guests as the teachers.
James Shannon from Chunky Move and Paris Hodson from Melbourne Dance Theatre Company will each run a class at the studio on 22 March.
Ms Jacobsson, 24, said it was uncommon that a dance school opened its doors for students from all dance schools.
“It is so rare that two professional dancers are coming to the suburbs. And the open invitation even more rare,” Ms Jacobsson said.
“I don’t see that it is of great value to bring the dancers out here and limit them to only the students at my school.”
Ms Jacobsson started her business after receiving positive feedback from a contemporary, competition-based dance program.
She said she supported the popular trend on shows such as So You Think You Can Dance, which encouraged the development of a dancer who was an “all-rounder”.
“Diversity is the key. All teachers should aim towards training dancers for the future. This cannot be achieved by one teacher alone.
“If and when dancers enter the professional world of dance, whether that is through study or occupation, they will be taught by many different teachers and choreographers, all of whom will bring something different to the table.”
Ms Jacobsson said the guest teachers would bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the students.
“This ensures that we as dancers are continuously challenging new ways of thinking and moving in order for us to grow and reach our full potential.”
Each class costs $14.50, or $25 for both classes. Mr Shannon will take a contemporary class and Ms Hodson will run a classical class.
