RESTARTING the business mentoring program in Casey would help stimulate the local economy, according to a civic leader.
Casey councillor Sam Aziz said the business mentoring program, which operated in the city for about 12 months, was an important program for the municipality.
“We would like to see it continue and for Casey to take a leadership role in terms of business mentoring because of the significant need we have to develop the local economy.”
Cr Aziz of the Springfield Ward said the commonwealth-funded program offered guidance for new business owners and opportunities for growth.
“Business mentoring is a vital pursuit in the challenging and economic environment.
“Given the previous success, the government cannot afford to take its eye off the ball.”
Sonali Peiris, 47, owner of the Hallam gourmet condiments business Miris Productions, participated in the program soon after she had started her business from home.
“This is my fourth year in business now, and when I had just started out the advice was invaluable,” Ms Peiris said.
She said she would like to see the mentoring program start up again as others could also benefit, and suggested more follow up calls to see how business owners were going after 12 months.
