Sport ovals get facelift

A $600,000 UPGRADE of Casey Fields is on the cards after the City of Casey nominated how it wanted to spend its $2.286 million from the Federal Government.
The upgrade of four ovals and sealing roads at Casey Fields was listed as one of six projects the City of Casey was undertaking as part of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP), announced in November last year.
The program aims to help build local community infrastructure in all of Australia’s local council areas.
Each of Australia’s councils received a minimum payment of $100,000 and some, including Casey, received further funding based on population, growth, and strategic-project. Projects include social and cultural infrastructure, sport and recreation facilities, tourism infrastructure, and access facilities.
The $300 million RLCIP would boost local economic development and support jobs in communities throughout Australia, the government said.
Other likely projects to be undertaken by the City of Casey include $400,000 to improve the safety of playgrounds in the municipality and $590,000 to introduce synthetic surfaces at tennis courts in the City of Casey.
Casey’s director of infrastructure services Ray Butler said all funds had to be used by 30 September.
Other projects listed include a café at Casey RACE, improvements to Pearcedale netball courts and pavilion and landscaping works at Berwick Springs Park.
