Safety blitz for workers

WORKSAFE will inspect industrial businesses in Cranbourne during April as part of the first targeted workplace safety campaign for the year.
WorkSafe inspectors will visit workplaces from 20 April to 24 April and check on the management of common safety issues.
WorkSafe’s executive director John Merritt said despite plenty of warning of the visits, too many people failed to act on safety issues.
“Employers, managers and workers need to take responsibility for safety.
“No one can afford to take a ‘she’ll be right’ attitude.
“If you do, the consequences can be catastrophic,” Mr Merritt said.
Inspectors would offer advice on how to resolve safety issues but would issue safety improvement notices if they saw any hazards, Mr Merrit said.
“Just because you’ve never had a safety incident doesn’t mean your workplace is safe.
“Even relatively minor injuries can be life changing.
“In most cases safety improvements can be made at little or no cost but not addressing safety issues can have serious human and commercial consequences including the potential for prosecution.”
