Call for action girls

Young women in Cranbourne have the opportunity to keep fit and have fun with a new initiative. Young women in Cranbourne have the opportunity to keep fit and have fun with a new initiative.

A NEW initiative in Cranbourne will allow teenage girls and young women to become involved in sport, active recreation, and leadership programs.
The Women’s Sports and Recreation initiative between the City of Casey and Sport and Recreation Victoria aims to provide opportunities for young women to become more active.
The initiative is linked to the Cranbourne Community Plan and will also include training, leadership and mentoring opportunities for women in Cranbourne.
City of Casey mayor Cr Geoff Ablett says the initiative is a great opportunity for women to keep fit while having fun and meeting new people.
“There will be more opportunities for young women to maintain an active lifestyle which is vitally important for health and well-being. The initiative will also provide fantastic opportunities for teenage girls and young mums to have fun, interact socially and meet new people,” said Cr Ablett.
“I really encourage young mums and teenage girls in Cranbourne to come along and try a new sport or activity, or something they haven’t done for a while. All of the events are family-friendly, so bring the kids along too.”
The initiative will be officially launched on Wednesday, 11 February at 12.15 at the Balla Balla Community Centre in Cranbourne East. Free activities will be running at various locations throughout Cranbourne from 10am until 5.30pm.
Three-time Olympic judo player Catherine Arlove will be the keynote speaker at the launch.
Women who attend will be able to try their hand at yoga, basketball, netball, walking groups, tennis, recreational football, cricket, touch football and rock climbing.
People wanting to attend the yoga classes or launch event are encouraged to RSVP to the City of Casey on 9705 5200 as places are limited. All other activities do not require a booking.
For information about the times and location of activities, contact the Women’s Sport and Recreation Project Officer on 9705 5200 or email leisure@casey.vic.gov.au.
