Australia Day tragedy for mates

AUSTRALIA Day turned to a day of tragedy for a group of friends when a man died in a car crash at Frankston on Monday.
Police said the man, whose identity was not confirmed when the News went to print, was driving with his friends in a blue Daewoo sedan along Cranbourne Road at 6.40am on Australia Day when the car collided with a Ford Falcon turning onto Ferndale Drive.
Three of the man’s friends who were also in the car at the time, all from Cranbourne, suffered serious injuries during the “horrific” smash, police said.
A 16-year-old was taken to The Alfred Hospital while a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were transported to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The driver of the Ford, a 24-year-old man from South Morang, was airlifted to The Alfred in a serious but stable condition.
Police from the Major Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and are investigating the collision. Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
