POLICE seized the car of an 18-year-old Devon Meadows man when they caught him speeding at more than 60 km/h over the limit on Monday.
Police intercepted the P-plate driver travelling at 143 km/h in an 80 km/h zone at about 3am while they were on a two-and-a-half-hour patrol of the Moorooduc Highway in Baxter.
Sergeant Michael Lamb from Hastings police said he was disappointed that eight people had been caught travelling at more than 10 km/h over the speed limit during such a short time.
“The lucky thing for him (the P-plater) is that he is only going to lose his car and his licence and we don’t have to notify another family that a loved one has died in a high-speed collision,’’ he said. “It’s very, very frustrating.”
Police impounded the man’s Honda coupe for 48 hours.
