HAMPTON Park Sporting Chance sold the winning $3 million Powerball ticket for the New Year’s Day draw.
A Pakenham man had the perfect start to 2009 with the win. The man, in his 50s, bought a Mega Quick Pick entry and had no idea he had won first division until a Tattersall’s Lotteries representative contacted him the following day.
“You’ve made my day. Actually, you’ve made my year,” the man said with a laugh.
The man said he would pay off his debts, help out family members financially and buy land on which he could raise chickens.
Sharon Bunting, manager of Hampton Park Sporting Chance, said it was one of the biggest wins the outlet had had over the past 27 years.
She said it was a nice way for someone to start the year and wished the man well with his new fortune.
