AWARDS are flowing in for Clyde winery La Fontaine.
The vineyard took out two bronze medals at the Victorian Wines Show in October, adding to its silver and bronze medals at last year’s Wines of Gippsland awards.
Owner Brett Glover said he was very pleased with the results of the winery, which was only established in Clyde in 2003.
“It is a very prestigious and competitive wine show and there were about 3500 entries, so to be such a young winery and win two bronze medals we are very excited,” he said.
The winery won the bronze medal for its 2006 Pinot Noir and 2006 Chardonnay.
Mr Glover established the winery on his Clyde property when he heard about a group of Tibetan monks who owned property with vines in the Yarra Valley that was due to be bulldozed.
When he heard of the intended demolition five years ago, he decided to rescue it and transport the vines, wire and posts to his Clyde property.
“We are the only winery in the whole area (Casey) and all of the eight wines we entered fared really well.
“Things are really exciting now because we’ve got a head chef putting out the most amazing food that everyone is raving about. We encourage everyone to come down and check it out.”
The kitchen is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am to 6pm.
Mr Glover’s story about how he and his partner established the vineyard will be featured on the Channel 7 program Hot Property this Sunday night and over the next few weeks.
