Hawks’ great at birthday

EDEN in Lynbrook residents enjoyed a day of celebration last Wednesday to commemorate the aged care home’s first birthday.
Staff, community members, residents, family and friends were among the 150 people who attended the barbecue lunch, cabaret show and presentations.
Hawthorn Football Club legend Peter Knights was the special guest on the day.
All four houses at Eden in Lynbrook are named after Hawthorn premiership winning coaches, as members of the family-owned company are devoted Hawthorn fans.
General manager of Eden in Lynbrook Sarah Mackenzie said the business had plans to build a fifth home to accommodate the name of the latest premiership coach from Hawthorn’s 2008 win, Alistair Clarkson.
“The residents absolutely loved the day and they remembered him (Peter Knights) from his days as a champion player,” Ms Mackenzie said.
“This was his third visit, so he’s a regular friend of Eden in Lynbrook.”
Ms Mackenzie said she hoped the 82 residents would soon be able to welcome Mr Clarkson as a guest at Eden in Lynbrook. He has given permission for the aged care facility to use his name for the house.
“At the naming ceremony this year all four coaches attended and it was the first time all four had been at the same place at the same time.
“We’ve got a goal for early next year to see if we can get all five together before the Hawthorn footy club.”
Ms Mackenzie said local Salvation Army members attended the first year celebrations because of their strong affiliation with Eden in Lynbrook.
Members of the Salvation Army made regular trips to the aged care facility as part of the Salvation Army Companion Club.
Local doctors, social workers, students and bowls club members also attended the event.
“It was a fabulous day and everybody enjoyed themselves.”
