Library grant’s a good read

THE Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation is to get more than $50,000 as part of the Premier’s Reading Challenge program.
The State Government recently announced that all Victoria’s public libraries would receive money from the $1 million fund.
The Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation, which includes the Pakenham Library, will get a $51,636 boost.
Eastern Victoria MP Johan Scheffer said the funding would help young people take part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
“I’m thrilled that Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation is part of this initiative, as it encourages children and teenagers in our community to get involved in reading and lifelong learning,” he said.
The aim of the challenge is to take action to help more of Victoria’s young people get the most out of their local libraries and to develop their literacy skills and appreciation of books.
The Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation provides services for 79,310 young people 16 years and below.
This year’s challenge was a success, with more than 210,000 students from 1300 schools taking part in the program.
