Stations a key issue

By Melissa Meehan
This week candidates were asked to send in a short statement highlighting their concerns for Casey – four said it was a prime issue that needed to be addressed.
This follows the City of Casey’s transport initiative pt4me2 Metropolitan Transport Plan launched last month.
Mayor Janet Halsall said, at the launch, the Lynbrook Station was one of the priorities because it was not due to be completed until at least 2016. Other priorities of the transport initiative include constructing a new station at Cranbourne, manning all stations, and introducing more frequent bus services.
Casey Cardinia Communities for Public Transport president Alex Makin said bringing the train station construction date forward was a worthy project.
“Bringing forward the date (of Lynbrook Station) is not just a priority, it’s a necessity,” Mr Makin said.
Inga Peulich, Member for South Eastern Metropolitan Region, said that the Brumby Government must commit to building the stations before 2010.
“The Casey community is speaking and speaking loud and clear,” Ms Peulich said. “They will not accept being left behind when it comes to transport matters.”
