Shire helps spring clean

CARDINIA Shire Council is encouraging residents to have a spring clean with its free hard and green waste collection service around the corner.
The free service will take place over five weeks, beginning this Monday for residents whose regular waste collection day is Monday.
Residents will be able to leave hard and green waste out for collection by the council’s contractor WM Waste Management Services.
Council’s Environmental Health Services Co-ordinator David Esmore said collection areas would be grouped by collection days to make it easier for residents to plan for their hard and green waste pick-up.
“From one week before the scheduled collection date for their area, residents can leave up to two cubic metres of hard and bundled green waste on their nature strip for collection,” Mr Esmore said.
“Items which can be left out for collection include scrap metal, furniture, mattresses, small car parts and whitegoods.”
Trees branches of less than 1.5 metres long and 15 centimetres in diameter will also be collected but must be tied in small bundles. Untied branches will not be collected.
Council urges residents to place green waste, mattresses, scrap metal and remaining hard waste in separate piles.
Items that will not be collected include batteries, asbestos sheeting, chemicals, large car parts, tyres, gas bottles, car springs and any other dangerous materials.
The collection dates are determined by residents’ regular waste collection day and are as follows:
Regular collection day Monday: 17 to 21 November.
Tuesday: 24 to 28 November.
Wednesday: 1 to 5 December.
Thursday: 8 to 12 December.
Friday 15 to 19 December.
