THE Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne will be conducting a series of ecological burns during October and November as part of its fire management program.
The burns, to be overseen by accredited staff from the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne and the CFA, are part of an ongoing management program aimed at conserving native plants and animals and reducing the risk of bushfire.
Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne Chris Russell said staff had been working closely with the CFA in light of the situation affecting residents at the Brookland Greens Estate.
“Burns will not proceed until the emergency status has been publicly lifted and the all clear has been given by the CFA to proceed,” he said.
“The CFA has advised that the proposed burns do not pose a threat to the properties affected by the gas migration.”
The Australian Garden will be open on the days of burns, but the bushland, including the Stringybark and Woodland Picnic areas, will be closed to the public.
