SOCCER players may soon be kicking goals on a Centre of Excellence at Casey Fields.
City of Casey acting CEO Peter Fitchett said the council was working closely with Football Federation Victoria (FFV) to ensure the South Eastern Regional Centre of Excellence would be located at the Cranbourne sports precinct.
Mr Fitchett said the soccer centre would resemble the successful Darebin International Sports Centre.
“The FFV has advised council of their keen interest in having the South Eastern Regional Centre of Excellence at Casey Fields,” he said.
“The centre would be based on the Darebin Centre model in Northcote, which provides training and match facilities for a large number of clubs.”
The ambitious plan follows last week’s announcement that Casey Fields was a front-runner to be home to a new A-League team.
Businessman Peter Sidwell is heading the push for Melbourne’s second professional soccer team and has talked about the prospect of the club being based at Cranbourne.
