A CRAFT market is coming to Cranbourne and is on track to open late November.
Plans for the market, to be held at the Cranbourne Racecourse between 8am and 1pm on the last Saturday of every month, are being finalised and organisers hope to open the doors as early as November.
City of Casey, Cranbourne Turf Club, Craft Markets Australia and the Cranbourne Chamber of Commerce are working to establish a regular market to attract thousands of visitors every month.
Neil Bainbridge, chief executive of the Cranbourne Turf Club told the News he was excited about hosting a market at the racecourse.
“We’ll give the concept our full support,” Mr Bainbridge said.
“We’re very keen to get this market up and running this year,” he said.
“We’re hoping to get it going in November or December, after the Cranbourne Cup race meeting on 12 October,” Mr Bainbridge said.
Casey councillor Steve Beardon said Cranbourne residents would embrace a craft market.
“This will be great for residents, it’s going to bring in thousands of visitors to our suburb every month,” he said.
A second market, a trash and treasure at the Cranbourne Homemaker Centre, is also on the cards.
Cr Beardon confirmed initial talks were underway with BB Retail Capital, owners of the homemaker centre, which is located on the corner of South Gippsland Highway and Thompsons Road.
