CRANBOURNE’S veteran community will benefit from a $7000 Australian Government Grant aimed at providing assistance to local servicemen and their families.
New computers and communication equipment will assist Casey Regional Veterans Centre in Cranbourne who provide welfare support, pension claims and arrange funeral rites for ex-service personnel.
Casey Regional Veterans Centre, which also makes presentations at schools and organisations on Australia’s military history, can provide research on family military history and provide a place for veterans to meet and socialise.
Chairman of the Veterans Welfare Centre, Denny van Maanenberg said the funding has made work for their eight permanent volunteers a lot smoother.
“While all of our members have the skills and expertise to run the Casey Centre, this new equipment will enable them to enhance their performance capabilities,” he said.
The new computers and office supplies were funded through the Australian Government’s Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) Grants.
The grant has provided the Centre with not only new computers but also the installation of internet access and a fax line, filing cabinets, laminator; guillotine, and office stationery.
“The only funding we can get is through donations, the sale of raffle tickets and through the best funding application and this year we are certainly excited to receive our new computers which will make our tasks more professional,” he said.
The Casey Regional Veteran Centre in Cranbourne is one of the many welfare centres sponsored by RSL and the Vietnam Association of Australia.
